In this moody character study from French director Benoît Jacquot, Anne (Isabelle Huppert) discovers her husband's infidelity and begins to carefully disassemble her neatly ordered life, cutting ties to the present in order to reconnect with her past. Is Anne on a mission of self-reinvention or self-negation? With an old acquaintance (Jean-Hugues Anglade) as her only confidant, Anne plays her emotions and intentions close to the vest til the end.
